Surfing, Diving, Snorkeling, Swimming, Sunbathing, Building sandcastles, Dig oneself in, Jogging, Yoga, Working out, take a walk, walk your dog, watch the Sunset – yes, enjoying the Beach is always a nice idea, no matter which activity you are going for. The typical feeling of salty skin and sandy feet. There are a lot of activities that can be enjoyed on the beach. But which should be the best one? The most important one?
Here is a suggestion:

We are located in Fuerteventura at one of the most stunning beaches on the Island – La Pared. Every Day our Surfteachers and Students are down there, giving their best in the Water, teaching their Students or trying to improve theirselves. No matter the weather, no matter the time. Passion always convinces. This passion of Surfing as well includes being close to the ocean, getting in touch with the water mostly every day, having the feeling of sandy feet and enjoying the sun on your skin – Nature is one of the most important things in your life, your connection to the earth, your way to get grounded. Water is your element that you are depending on.

Now imagine somebody destroyes your place of passion – Pollution is a huge catastrophe and is one of the biggest environmental issues in the world. It exists a patch of plastic trash in the ocean, that has the size of western europe. The „Great Pacific Garbage Patch“ should be known by anyone in this world. Yourself being your worst enemy, destroying what you love. Humans are throwing away an unimaginable amount of plastic each day, and it ends up in our oceans. Plastic pieces get smaller and smaller and end up having a size of only a few millimeters, looking like fish food, destroying your favorite home – the beautiful Coastlines worldwide.

We are only tiny humans on this huge planet and we can not change everybody’s behavior, everybody’s attitude. But we can try to raise awareness about nature and the huge impact humanity has on it. We did! Cleaning up the Beach is one of the most important activities to do at the beach. So we did and ended up with 5 huge trash bags full of plastic, collected at the beach. People saw us whilst cleaning up and were always really friendly and were starting to collect as well. This is the main goal, just to show them that there is something they can do and they _should_ do.

We are not the only ones doing beach clean ups – gladly! Wim Geirnaert came to the Island 1993 and started a project to make organized beach clean ups, the [1]. It started in the North of the Island and is now vey well-known in europe. Their mission is simple but so important „Our approach is simple, we are driven by the idea that everybody is part of the problem – and the solution. Do your bit, be part of it.“ You can not change it alone, but you can do your bit and next time you are on holidays near the ocean, just be part of it and collect a little bit of trash on the beach! Make the world a better place.
